Don Ciccio pizza, Montevideo…one of the best pizzas I’ve had in my life!

Oh my god, I can’t believe I am going to say it to everyone reading but I have to.  The pizza we had here rivals New York pizza, even though it’s made in a different style.  If you knew how much I loved pizza, you would know that is a very bold statement.  But the pizza here is that good.  Trust me, if you are craving a good pizza with REAL cheese (not that melted block that they put on all the pizza) then you must go here.  It’s out of the central viaja ciudad (old city) part of Montevideo but it’s worth the detour.  The crust is super thin, almost cracker like so it’s crispy and just melts in your mouth.  You have a variety of toppings to choose from, more so than the standard.  We chose the eggplant and basil.  The eggplant was paper thin sliced and the pizza was  sprinkled heavily with chiffonades of basil.  The dessert was equally as sublime.  We shared a tiramisu.  One of the best I’ve had!  The owner was friendly and he genuinely seemed interested in what we thought of the pizza.  I was as happy to inform him as he was to receive the news, one of the best pies of my life.  Do not miss this place if you love pizza.
